The Route

This is the proposed route for the Crossing the States road trip. If we decide that we just have to make a diversion to see the largest ball of twine on the face of the earth, then it may well change, but this is the plan at the point of setting out. We're starting in the north east, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts on April 30, 2010 where we will pick up a car. From there we head south, generally missing out the midwest and ending up on the west coast by mid-to-late May. We fly back to London from Seattle on May 24, 2010.

Some of the key destinations on the itinerary:

Boston, Massachusetts
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Washington DC, District of Columbia
Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee
Dallas, Texas
Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico
Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon, Arizona
Las Vegas, Nevada
San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz and San Francisco, California
Portland, Oregon
Seattle, Washington

From Google Maps, we anticipate that this is about 5,200 miles as a straight run. So with detours, diversions and day trips, we reckon it'll come in just under 6,000 miles. We'll keep an eye on the stats and post a summary at the end of the trip.

That you aren't coming through Austin is criminal. My bias isn't just based on that fact that live here but ask anyone in Dallas and they would say Austin is a better spot for film geeks. :) While here you can visit our two AMAZING video stores I Luv Video and Vulcan Video, both with primo VHS selections. Plus you can join us (I say us as in we friendly regulars) at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Something to think about. :)

Man, would we love to do that. Looks like it's about 7 hours out of our way, there and back. We'll have a chat about it. With severe flooding in Nashville, we may have some spare time for a diversion :-)
