Today we made the short drive from the Baltimore, Maryland area over to Washington DC. The weather was fantastic, hitting 32/89F by lunch time. While Dale sang Barack's in Charge to the theme tune of 80's television show Charles in Charge, we cruised into town to check out the capital of the United States. Suddenly, we were passed by a group of people touring DC on Segway scooters. The tour was called 'Segs in the City' - I knew then this was going to be one hell of a good day.
We were all stunned by the Capitol building, the Washington Monument and the reflective pool. We paddled our feet in the water of one of the fountains and then headed over to the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and of course, The White House. The majesty of the location, the history of the text, the sculptures and the reverence for the veterans who were visiting made for a powerful and memorable experience.
Even though I applied sun cream, the searing heat still managed to toast me pretty good. Dale reckons I look like Tim Curry in Legend. He also keeps calling me Hellboy. I should fit in nicely with my red neck when we head south.
Anyway, Dale drinks Root Beer and it tastes like Germolene in a glass, so there.
